The Ministry of Infrastructure is working on important regulations concerning road transport. According to the draft law, the payment period for transport services will be shortened to 14 days.
A two-week payment term is to be the standard, and only in some situations will it be possible to set a 30-day term, but only in strictly defined cases and only if it is included in the contract and after the carrier's consent. Previous practices, which often forced 45- or 60-day waiting periods for payment, are to be eliminated.
This regulation is seen as a response to numerous demands of the industry, which has long been struggling with pathologies in the area of settlements. The introduction of this regulation will bring relief to the industry, because it is intended to curb various abuses related to this. Waiting for many months for payment for completed orders often led to serious financial problems.
The new regulations also apply to companies ordering transport. Companies will be required to verify whether the carrier they entrust with transport has the required licenses and authorizations. This is intended to eliminate illegal carriers and increase safety on the market. For forwarding companies, this means the need for greater responsibility and diligence in selecting contractors, which will affect the quality of services provided.
The bill is currently undergoing public consultations, during which the industry has the opportunity to submit its comments. After this stage, a two-year preparatory period will come into force, which means that the new regulations will come into force in 2026 or 2027. This time will allow companies to prepare for the changes, both in terms of payments and additional obligations related to the verification of carriers. The new regulations are intended to stabilize the market and improve working conditions for the entire transport industry.
