The basics of diesel engine operation for novice mechanics

scope of the training

The training is intended for new car service employees who will deal with cars with diesel engines. During the training, the participants will be provided with basic knowledge about servicing diesel engines. The training will consist of 80% of the practical part during which the participant will be able to perform basic service activities related to the diesel engine. Great emphasis will be placed on working according to the assembly procedures contained in the ESI tronic program (special tools, tightening torques, etc.) in order to develop the right habits necessary for good work performance.

Diesel engine in general:

  • fuel combustion process
  • types of power systems
  • compression measurement
  • tightness measurement

Systems with EDC distribution pumps:

  • principle of operation of the distributor pump (fuel dosing and injection angle adjustment)
  • setting the start of pumping using a dial indicator
  • dynamic control of the start of pressing by means of KTS
  • control of double-spring injectors on the EPS100 tester

Systems with unit injectors:

  • principle of operation of the unit injector (fuel dosing and injection angle adjustment)
  • assembly of the pump injector in the head
  • checking the tightness of the seat
  • control of unit injector parameters using KTS

Replacing the timing belt on the example of 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines Systems with VP30/44 pumps:

  • principle of operation of the VP30/44 pump
  • pump assembly on the motor
  • specific issues related to VP30/VP44 pumps

Common Rail System:

  • description of the low pressure system, characteristic parameters
  • assembly and coding of injectors using KTS
  • high pressure pump assembly
  • checking faults with KTS
