Sump pallets, a simple way to avoid big trouble

Leszek Marcinkowski, Dział Wyposażenia Warsztatów

The storage of hazardous and flammable substances is associated with the risk of many risks to both the environment and employees. However, proper storage can virtually eliminate the possibility of uncontrolled leakage. Pallets are the perfect way to do this .

In addition to issues related to the safety of employees, legal regulations on preventing the release of hazardous substances into the environment cannot be omitted. Although EU regulations do not clearly regulate this issue, in our native Act of 27 April 2001 - Environmental Protection Law (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2013, item 1232, as amended), we can find guidelines to be followed. Otherwise, in the event of an inspection, we may be charged with severe financial penalties.

What exactly does the law require?

A: 228055 Although it sounds serious, the solution turns out to be relatively simple. Simply place the containers or drums of oils, coolants and other substances found in any workshop on containment pallets (also known as containment tubs). Thanks to this, everything that comes out of the containers in an uncontrolled way will end up in a sealed vessel. We will avoid mess and possible unnecessary penalties.

What to consider when choosing a capture pallet?

It is generally accepted that the sump tank should be able to collect a volume equal to or greater than the capacity of the smallest container, or 10% of the volume of all stored substances. Exceptionally, for example in areas and water protection areas, we have to provide up to 100% of the capture volume. However, such situations are rare. The materials of which bathtubs are made are mainly steel or polyethylene. The latter have greater chemical resistance, are lighter and easier to maintain. At Autos you can find such escape pallets . Just contact your branch and advisers will help you choose.
