Due to the time of year and the need for additional lighting, truck users and owners are happy to invest in additional headlights that improve everyday work such as transporting goods during long-distance transport, loading and unloading or road maintenance work.
Additional lighting can be installed on the vehicle, but in order to use it on public roads, the lamps must have appropriate approvals. Requirements in this respect and the method of installing lights are regulated by the provisions of the UNECE regulations. They specify the number and arrangement of lights in the car, both mandatory and optional. If the guidelines contained therein are followed during installation, the lights can be used on public roads. The above-mentioned regulations will be discussed in more detail using the example of two lamps from WESEM , a Polish manufacturer of LED lamps used in trucks, delivery vehicles and off-road vehicles.
The manufacturer of a lamp approved for use in road traffic is obliged to obtain approval and apply an appropriate description to the product. The description contains information about what type of lamp it is, which also determines where it can be mounted. In the case of the FERVOR road headlamp , the description is located on the glass, while in the CRK2-AR LED lamp it is placed on the housing.
The approval description on the FERVOR lamp from WESEM is as follows:
The letter "E" means that the approval was issued in accordance with the UNECE Regulations, while the number indicates the country in which it was issued. In the case of FERVOR, "20" means that the headlamp has been approved in Poland. Next to the graphic sign there is an approval number (in the case of the FERVOR lamp - 1637), which is a unique approval number issued for this product. In addition, next to the graphic sign there is a symbol that indicates the type of light. For road lamps it is the letter "R". It may have the extension as in the case of the product in question - "HR", which means a higher class driving light.
In the case of the CRK2 -AR (CRK2C) lamp, the approval description contains the "AR" symbol, which means that the product has withdrawal approval.
The approval certificate obtained in one of the European Union Member States (WESEM produces in Poland) is recognized throughout the EU.
An additional pair of road lamps can be installed in addition to the mandatory lamps that must be in the vehicle, while for vehicles over 12 tons, a third pair of lamps is allowed, but only two pairs of lamps can be used on the road at the same time. It is specified that the lamps must be mounted at the front and must not impede driving (dazzle) the driver.
When selecting lamps, pay attention to the gauge number specified for road headlights. It is usually found in the manufacturer's technical specifications and is included in the approval description.
The sum of the hallmark numbers in the lamps that are lit at the same time on the vehicle cannot exceed 100 for the protection and safety of all vehicles traveling on the road. FERVOR reflectors are available in two gauge numbers: 50 and 25. In the first one, we can use 2 reflectors at once, and in the second, 4 reflectors at the same time. The headlights have aesthetic covers that can be used if necessary.

There are no requirements regarding positioning, but the lamps should be mounted at the rear of the vehicle, higher than 250 mm and lower than 1200 mm from the ground.
